This class which is called “New Media in Foreign Language Learning” is for students who want to become a teacher in their future. It is very important to be up to date with the newest media and its development. Also the pupils at school internalize more and more the work with the internet, power point, web sites, social networks and others. Therefore, teachers have to be qualified in using new media as one tool for teaching. And while the work with the internet is mostly indispensable at schools and universities, the new media have become a well-accepted medium for language teaching. As for this, one has to know how to work with it, because it allows teachers to create new learning opportunities for their students.
Hence, in this class, we as the students, established several computer applications, web tools and other possibilities of new media which make the every-day work of an English teacher easier. Thus, in-class teaching and lesson preparation become easier to plan and to perform.
Consequently, the students within this class improved their knowledge about new media and got informed about its dangers. Moreover, they got in touch with own teaching ideas and plans that use new media, e.g. vocabulary learning software, web 1.0 tools, online newspapers or podcasts.
